Harvest Shares

Summer Shares

Community members become shareholders of the farm by purchasing a share of the harvest each spring. This cost supports growing a diverse selection of fruit and veggies each year that are then distributed back to the shareholders. Summer shareholders come to the farm once per week June through October. Thanksgiving and December Holiday shareholders come once during each month of November and December. Winter shareholders pick up food once per month January through April.

The produce is fresh and seasonal, meaning the vegetables are often picked the morning of your pick up and will be as diverse as possible for the time of year. We work our hardest to produce the highest quality of food each year, however due to weather, wild animals and other pests, some years the harvest may be more bountiful than others. Every season is different, yet we always plant excess to ensure a bounty of weekly food.

As with our pastured animals, we believe in crop rotation and resting plots of land in order to produce healthy vegetables while maintaining healthy soils.

What is a CSA?

By becoming a shareholder at Little Ridge Farm, you have the opportunity to build a relationship between your food, the land it was grown on and the people who grew it. This marketing method is called Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Community Supported Agriculture translated means “food with a farmer’s face on it”. The concept began in Japan in the 1960’s and has since spread through Europe and the United States.

Summer Harvest Share

Summer Shareholders choose from a diverse selection of fresh produce each week during the growing season (June-October).  The produce is displayed “market style”, meaning you have the choice of how much and what kind of seasonal produce you want for that week up to a total given weight.  This list will provide an idea of when and what items are available.

How much food is it?
The summer share weight varies throughout the season, although the average full share weight is around 10#/week; half share 5#/week.  (Average is the total weight distributed, over the entire season, divided by the total number of pick-ups, about 21 weeks.) Recipes and preservation tips are provided each week via the Happy Farmer Farm Blog and Facebook.

strawberriesWhat else do we offer? Shareholders have free access to a PYO garden with flowers and herbs.  We also have PYO strawberries and raspberries for sale exclusively for shareholders.

When are the picks-ups and what if I can't make it? Pick-up days are either Tuesday or Friday from 3-7pm. If you can't make your pick-up day you may 1). switch days that week 2). send a friend 3). donate your share to the food bank 4). or we can work something out!

Work Shares
We offer a work share opportunity that allows one to get a more hands on experience with the farm in exchange for a discount on their share price. Please contact us if you are interested!
